Over time on this site, you’re going to see a lot of stats related to the explosion of mobile.  They’re going to be variants of the following:

-Use of mobile web browsing is growing at a much faster rate than the desktop

-Video consumption via mobile is exploding

-People of all ages are generally on their mobile devices more and more

-The youngest generations in your workforce are almost exclusively mobile.

But you’ve heard all that.  You accept it to be true.  But at the end of the day, it fades into background as white noise.  Blah. blah, blah…

So let’s talk about something that’s real related to you having a true mobile version of your career site.  Not a native app, etc.  True mobile, my friends.

Here’s what is real.  I’m privileged that I get to speak at conferences to large groups a good bit.  Any time I do any topic that relates to social, I ask the following question:

“How many of you checked your smartphone every morning before you even get out of bed?”

The answer is always 95%+ of the room.  95 freaking percent.  I need to take a picture of the crowd next time I ask that question.  It’s staggering.  It’s also the answer to why you need to think about a mobile version of your careers site.

Think about it.  You work HARD to get the opportunities at your company in front of people via all kinds of marketing – social, job boards, email blasts, etc.  It’s hard to get people to your career website.

All the people you really want?  They’re checking their smartphone before they get out of bed.  That means that when they see your fragment of a job – a tweet, email or other reference to your open spot, they’re clicking through, and…

They get your careers site on the iPhone version of Safari.  And they say, “no”, abandoning the prospect of looking at the job on their phone because it’s too hard.  And your job never gets viewed and you don’t get the best candidate for your company.

That’s a shame.  Get a real mobile version of your careers site, and you transition some of that early morning/bedroom traffic into conversations with the right candidate.

Mobile recruiting?  The true test is found in millions of bedrooms every morning.   Who knew?
